About

More and more films are being made which is incredible. The tools to create have become democratized but distribution channels are fragmented and in most cases not accessible in ways that filmmakers require to sustain.  There is a bottleneck in the traditional system – too many films and too few outlets. It is a given that films aren’t being picked up the way they once were. The odds of getting a theatrical deal unless you mount it yourself are slim to none. So where do you start?  How do you manage a release, let alone make sure that you get the word out so people show up? Well the WorkBook Project wants to help. We’re pleased to announce a new award:

The WorkBook Project – Discovery and Distribution Award is part of an initiative to provide tangible options for those working in film, music, games, design and software to fund, create, distribute and sustain.

Born from a desire to share information and resources, the WBP Award strives to create an environment where the results of the various awarded projects are provided back to the community as a whole. This transparency around what works and what doesn’t is how creators will be able to flourish in a constantly changing media landscape. At the same time the sharing of resources and information helps to prime a community of creators in ways that will assist them and their prospective audiences in discovering and distributing the media that matters most to them.

Speaking of community we are looking for a few good women and men to work with us to make the award a reality. The submission fees that we’re charging for the award are for two things. The management of the Award itself which will be a large effort and to also pay for the venue, PR and other supporting things required to make the run happen. So if you’re interested in lending a hand OR if you’d like to volunteer your time we’d love to hear from you. work [@] workbookproject [dot] com

ABOUT the WorkBook Project

The WorkBook Project (WBP) is for those who want to be creative in the digital age. WBP, through its website, R&D projects such as festival From Here to Awesome and roving conference DIY DAYS, provides insight into the process of funding, creating, distributing and sustaining as a creator of media (film, games, music, design, software). WBP is focused on innovation, new trends, cutting edge projects and an open approach to a once closed industry.

The core of the WBP is made up by an evolving collection of innovators who make their process transparent. By capturing experiences from the frontlines of this new emerging convergent media industry, WBP finds itself at the forefront of an exploding global DIY movement. A movement where film, gaming, music, design, and software collide to form experiences that reach and engage global audiences across multiple screens, devices and platforms.
