Today’s guest is Cory Doctorow. Cory is an accomplished science fiction author, blogger and internet activist. In addition he is co-editor of the popular blog A proponent of creative commons licenses, he has released his books under a variety of licenses that allow for free downloads, but charge for printed versions. In our discussion we cover issues of Digital Rights Management, digital downloads, and the concept of how releasing elements of your work for free might make you even more money.

  • Great conversation! I love how Lance is always reminding people to consider that new social networking technology isn't going to be used just to consume media but also to interact with the story across multiple devices. This is a very valid point for the DataPortability movement. It points out that it's not just about being open, fair, innovative and extremely functional. It's also about a designing an environment where where story tellers have even more dimensions to be creative within.

    Chris did a great explanation of APML. I dig it. But man, won't those APML files become huge over the course ones internet life?
